Too fast

Has anyone else noticed how the days seem to move really fast lately?
It’s like you wake up on a Monday, then BOOM! The next thing you know
it’s already a Sunday! It gets me thinking: how did I get here so
fast? Whatever happened to Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday? Have I stepped into a hole in time and skipped days in the week?

With this cycle always repeating, with days speeding right by, I feel
like I’m running after something that I could never catch up with, and
at the same time running away from something that always catches up
with me! It’s really weird!

And now it’s a Sunday morning. I can’t help but wonder how the days
went by so fast and how I feel like I haven’t done much (or at least
much that I would enjoy).

I’m gonna try and see how I can slow time down so I can better enjoy each day as they come.

In the works

I’m currently putting together my top ten list of the best film
directors
. I need two more to complete the list. It’s a difficult task
choosing from so many talented helmers, and for a film buff it’s doubly
hard.

I have seen a lot of films in my lifetime (in theaters and at home) and
pointing out the really outstanding directors based on the movies I’ve
seen would be like trying to find ten needles in a haystack. But I’m up to it.

And like I said, I only need two more to make ten.

I’m hoping to have this posted by the first week of August.

Long day

It’s almost 3 a.m. and i’m the last one in the office. i’m trying to finish one of the sections of the website I work for. The section is called Trends and I’ve taken over the reins to this project since one of our editors bailed last week.

It’s okay. No biggie. In fact I like updating this section of the Sun.Star website because it gives my artistic abilities lots of space to express themselves. I just really like the colors and the layouts and such.

I also like playing around with the images using Photoshop–there’s so many things that can be done to an image with Photoshop. This has become one of my new toys lately. It’s a great tool for the creative geniuses… like your’s truly.  hehehe.

I’m also thinking about the article I need to write for our Blog Chronicle section. I think this should be an easy task as I’ve been delving deeper and deeper into the wonderful world of blogging. There’s a lot of things that can  be done with blogs, and come to think of it, this could be the gist of my article for our blogs section. Hmmmm… we’ll see.

And now it’s almost 4 a.m. I really need to go. I guess I’ll just finish this up on the weekend. Gotta go get some breakfast.

Whew! This was such a long day.

Justice League: Starcrossed The Movie

The best I’ve seen so far from the creators of Justice League and Justice League Unlimited (JLU).

There was no way I could have been prepared for this. Even the reviews I read online didn’t spoil anything for me. Starcrossed is what a comic book fanboy dreams a superhero movie should be.

The
story was well written (though not devoid of certain "minor" flaws, but
negligible) and the character interactions were far better than those
in recent superhero flicks.

There were a lot of surprises
strewn all throughout the film, and considering that I haven’t seen all
of season two, they were like major revelations to me. Stuff like the
Hawkgirl-Green Lantern love affair; the Bruce-Diana kiss at a diner;
Batman giving advice about relationships with women (he should know!);
the revelation of secret identities within the league, among others. It
was such a smorgasbord of really, really cool stuff. The producers
ended the season with a bang–a very big bang!!!

The movie had a lot of action, lots of twists and turns, lots of melodrama and a handful of laughable moments.

Can’t wait to see what else they’re planning to do with the JLU cast and storyline. Exciting!

El Crimen del Padre Amaro

I’m always on the look out for interesting foreign language
films–being the film buff that I am. =o) I’ve gone from Chinese movies
to Indian to French films… and now I’m checking out Mexican flicks.

I bought a copy of "El Crimen del Padre Amaro"
partly because of its lead, Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, and
partly because I was thinking that with all the hype received by "Amores Perros" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien", this might be a good one too.

I
saw the movie. Nothing out of the ordinary here. It actually plays out
like most of the Tagalog films I’ve seen–typical, predictable,
lackluster. In fact, some of the Mexican telenovelas that made their
way to Philippine shores had better, more engaging stories.

But
that’s not to say that the acting isn’t good. It is. Garcia Bernal’s
performance was about the only thing that held my interest in the
film–something the script should have mainly done. Well, you can’t
have everything. =o)

Plus, with the whole young-priest-meets-real-world
plot having been mined so many times before, the creative forces behind
"Amaro" could have at least added some peculiar plot points to, say,
steer it away from its much better predecessor "The Priest" ( which starred Linus Roache).

Still, this movie helps make my collection varied and diverse. So, I can’t really complain. =o)

Always the first casualty

So now I start "losing"
things (again) that don’t really need, right?
One of the things that’s always been getting the axe lately is a good night sleep. I
only got three hours of sleep today (Sunday), and a day full of
activities was waiting for me.

I live outside the city (Cebu) now and I spend more time on the commute
than I used to. It wouldn’t really be that much of a problem (I think)
if I didn’t work the night shift and didn’t have to take a 20-minute
walk from the main road all the way to our house.

This especially becomes a "sacrifice" during weekends. On Fridays I get home from choir practice usually around 11:30 p.m. with a 9 a.m.
"call time" for worship
practice with the band already scheduled. You might think this is ample time but it’s
not, as I actually need at least 2 hours to get ready for any
appointment when I’m coming from my house–that’s 2 hours inclusive of
a bath, a change of clothes, a quick bite, and the commute into the
city.

With that in mind, it means that I need to wake up at 7 a.m. on
Saturdays–giving me a sleep time of around 6 hours, and looking
forward to a full day.

And then I work from 4 p.m. (Saturday) till 1 a.m. (Sunday). I usually
get home between 2:30 and 3 a.m. from work, a 10-minute bus ride
(shorter travel time due to the absence of heavy traffic), and the
20-minute (tops) walk I mentioned above.

The Sunday worship service is at 9 a.m., which means I also have to
wake up at 7 a.m. for my 2-hour prep time, which means my maximum
possible sleep time is only around three and a half hours (which is
what I had earlier). And let me tell ya: Sunday is one of my busier days–believe it!

I signed up for this and I knew I’d be giving some stuff up. But I
don’t want to offer anything to the Lord that costs me nothing. So if
singing with the choir and worship ministries makes restful sleep
always the first casualty in
the discards department, then so be it. I know this is one of the
easier sacrifices I’m making, so I can’t really complain. (I can,
actually, but what good will that do me? )

The loser gets a crown!

I went to the Saturday practice of our praise and worship team this
morning and what a powerful session it was. We were flowing in the
Spirit and our songs of worship just came out unrehearsed from our hearts.
It was amazing!

I missed being with the worship team in the 2 months that I haven’t
ministered with them. It’s been a conundrum of sorts figuring out if I
should commit to the team. But after learning about the law of use and the law of perseverance in the Bible studies with the choir, it became clear to me that God wanted me to use the voice and talents He has given me for both the New Life Sounds choir and the Maranatha worship team and persevere
in spite of the cost this entails. That means I’m gonna have to
rearrange my life again and let go of  things that don’t really have much
eternal value.

I’m gonna lose a lot here but that’s okay!

"Anyone who loves his life loses it, but
anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.
[Whoever has no love for, no concern for, no regard for his life here
on earth, but despises it, preserves his life forever and ever.]"
John 12:25 (Amplified Bible)

Audio Adrenaline put it this way: "To live your life you’ve got to lose it and all the losers get a crown."

Getaway

Today is a Friday!
Friday is my day off.
A day off means I get to forget everything work related.
Everything work related is attached to different levels of stress.
Stress, they say, is a silent killer.
Killers, for lack of nothing better to do, take life away.
Life is what I want to enjoy today.
Today is a Friday!
Friday is the only day I get to practice with my choir.
My choir is one of the few people groups in my social stata that I like to be with.
I like to be with a cheeseburger and some fries before I go to my favorite hangout.
My favorite hangout is at Uytengsu St.–my choir directress’ house.
My choir directress’ house is huge and picturesque.
Picturesque means anything that evokes mental images.
Mental images of my day off are already set in my head.
In my head, I’m off to some exotic getaway on a deserted island, sipping juice on the beach!!!

Just one day. One day off.

I want one more!
